Cadillac– A Brief History
We thought it might be a nice idea to give you a brief history of the Cadillac in general. You may not be aware that my 58 Caddy is part of a long tradition of classic American cars. Before you learn more about my vehicle, why not take some time learning about the brand in general and a bit about what makes it as popular as it still is today?
If you are viewing this website from outside of America you may not be entirely sure what a Cadillac is even. If you are in the UK for example you probably have a car, insurance and car insurance but it won’t be for a Cadillac. They are sold in over 50 countries but it is mainly in North America where they are most know and most popular. The car itself is considered to be a luxury vehicle brand, owned by General Motors.
Any knowledge you have of the car may have stemmed from seeing Caddy’s in movies. The brand has been around for a very long time. In fact after Buick it is the second oldest American auto-mobile manufacturer.
It was at start of the twentieth century in 1902 that the car was born. It was a mechanic and entrepreneur known as Henry Leland who founded it and named the company after a relative called Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac. It was soon purchased by General Motors who still owns it today and within just six years it was without a doubt America’s premier luxury car. It was Cadillac after all who brought in things which changed the face of cars forever, such as full electrical systems, the clashless manual transmission and the steel roof.
From there the car went from strength to strength and became hugely sought after It is not uncommon for people to renovate an old one like I am doing because as you can see it is such a unique, stunning and well designed car that they all deserve a new lease of life.
